Date: Thu, 26 Apr 2001 19:31:16 -0600 From: Dan Long Subject: 2.5m obslog 20010425 (MJD 52015) take 2 The log apparently did not make to the Princeton server this morning. Here is another attempt. APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday April 25, 2001 (MJD 52025) OBSERVING TEAM: =============== Dan Long (APO) Steph Snedden (APO) Anders Jorgensen (LANL) PT VISITORS: ========= THE PLAN: ========= Imaging if photometric. Spectroscopy if not. SYNOPSIS: ========= Lots of weather delay ( 4 hours due to dust, 1.5 hours due to humidity ), but despite all that and variable high clouds we finished 2 plates ( 529, 592 ). GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== A dust event starting around 19:00 forced us to close up and stop ventilating the enclosure. The pressure set point was raised to .5 At 23:20 the dust counts dropped below 2000 and we opened ( HVAC pressure set point was returned to 0 ). Ne lamp 3 died during preCalib at 00:05. A Neon lamp hunt ensued ( not quite the same as Easter eggs :). Lamp was replaced and we were back on the sky at 00:30. /dev/hdd1 ( /hoggpt/d3 ) filled up completely and halted SoS. Some files were removed ( raw frames from 52022 and 52023 ). With that we gained a few percent, so it seems more space is needed. Which other files are fair game for removal? As has happened in the past SoS stopped updating and even once the space was cleared and the files transferred over, it did not update the current plate. We then ran sos_redo, and got most of the numbers for plate 529. sos_redo grumbled a bit, but seemed to work ( see problem section for details ). At least it processed the arc frame it had earlier complained was missing. However SoS never processed the second science frame in spectrograph one. By the time SoS had caught up we had finished the fourth exposure. That gave us an (S/N)^2 of 20 or better in the side which had all exposures reduced. We closed again shortly after 02:00 when the dewpoint depression dropped below 3 C and the dust count was around 2000. We opened again around 03:30 when the humidity and dust dropped, and started working on cartridge one which was started last night. Axes halted during the second science exposure. The TCC complained that a read timed out on the rotator ( same problem as PR 2193? ). See problem section for details. We got enough signal by the third exposure to declare it done when combined with last night's two exposures.
