GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== While bringing the telescope to 6 deg to open, putting a brake on has caused it bring the ALT to be slightly higher than 6 deg. So "j" command in MCP was applied to bring it gently down to 6 degrees. Before we knew, it went down to 3.5 degrees and MCP hung. We had to reboot MCP so that we can operate. Steph will try to reproduce this tomorrow. We started out with imaging (9 S) because the sky looked promising with low winds and beautiful sky. The wind switched to east before twilight was over, but we decided to try imaging since few nights ago when the wind was from the east, we got good imaging data (of course the difference is that Dan was on that night. We were Dan-less tonight.). The seeing was getting worse as we watched. We gave up around 21:45 and switched to spectro. It took 7 exposures to finish this plate. The 6th exposures showed S/N=2.0 for r2, it was not added in the total S/N. We believe this must be due to how SoS rounds up its numbers on the www page. So we took the 7th exposure and we declared this plate done. Offset: ScaleFac 1.000 CalAzOff -0.003221 CalAltOff 0.000916 CalAngOff 0.037640 cartridge 5 plate 586 ----------------------- Since the seeing was not getting any better, we started out with 20min exposures for this plate. During the second exposure (9690), TCC stopped tracking again (like last night). We stopped the exposure early and then issued gotoField. After getting the guide stars back in fibers we started a new science exposure. We lost the guide stars for about about a min before we stopped the exposure. The S/N from SoS says this exposure is miserable (1.2 to 1.4)! So the photons must not have been going down the fiber before we lost the guide stars from the guide frames. We finished this plate after two more 20min exposures.
