OBSERVING PLAN ============== Science. Imaging as priority, then spectroscopy. OBSERVING SUMMARY ================= We did not open because of weather: dust counts well over safe limits, with winds > 35 m.p.h. most of the time. No other problems. OBSERVERS' LOG ============== We had high winds most of the night and a dust storm from long before sunset that did not abate. The enclosure HVAC was set up to maintain 0.5psi positive pressure to exclude dust and was left that way. Although the dust counts dropped close to the limit around 03:00, the air temperature also dropped, so the telescope was grossly out of thermal equibrium (M1 T=+7.4C, Air T=-0.5C). Also, the humidity was rising steeply. This not being a recipe for success before twilight, we declared it a night lost to weather and started endNight procedures at 03:10. The telescope was not moved, but the instruments were bias exercised as usual. No problems found.
