Spectroscopy shake/science if clouds present. SYNOPSIS: ========= It was an imaging night. Finished 34 S ( -41 to 10 ) in good seeing. 3.5 hours of good stuff! Started 37 N ( 48 to 59 ) in marginal/poor seeing. Stopped early due to dust. GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== The current weather and the forecast looked good for imaging. While doing the afternoon check we smelled smoke. Looking southwest we saw a blue haze drifting up through Dog Canyon. Camron checked his radio and heard traffic that there was a brush fire in lower Dog Canyon. About an hour later the smoke was no longer visible. We took the engineering camera off and put on the imager during the afternoon. Biases were taken inside the darkened enclosure about half an hour before sunset. The telescope had been ventilating for about an hour an a half when we closed the doors to take the biases. The biases finished about sunset. We then opened and waited for it to get dark. id2 had four instances of wrong number of pixel errors tonight. They were scattered throughout run 2243 frames ~ ( 93, 112, 160, 280 ). No other nodes reported these errors. CCD33 was stable throughout the imaging runs. Run 2243 was a science run on 34 S from -41 to 10. It was clear the entire time and seeing was good, ranging from 1.2 to 1.6 arcseconds. The last rotator tweak was before frame 50. We were into the desired region of lambda and at astronomical twilight around frame 65. Run 2244 was an abbreviated run. The seeing was never very good. The dust counts rose over the limit less than an hour into the run. We closed at about 01:30 and never reopened.
