Spectroscopy shake/science if clouds present. SYNOPSIS: ========= There was a long wait on clouds. We got a pointing model in the last hour and a half of the night. It had 2" rms with no big shift in AW. There were no mirror oscillations. It looks like dusting the mirror with a black cat on Friday the 13th did the trick! GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== M2 MiGs were not being read during the afternoon checkout. Rebooting the M2 MiG box got them going. Unfortunately it required getting into the MiG box located on the back of the PSS. The reboot button for the MiGs currently doesn't do anything. The plan according to French is to put a button downstairs for this purpose. Both M1 and M2 were homed and the primary relaxed. All MiGs were functional for this, so complete homing could be done. Thick high clouds prevented opening at the start of the night. French and Ruth stayed until shortly after midnight in hopes we would open. French wanted to be around if there were any problems getting on the sky. I'm happy to report that once we finally did get on the sky, there were no problems. We finally got open at 03:45, and started a pointing model at about 04:00. We got a 72 point model done just into astronomical twilight. Fixing the existing model and forcing a fit yielded a 7 arcsecond rms. Allowing the coefficients to vary, the fit looked good and the rms pointing is about 2 arcseconds. There wasn't enough time to test it other than to try one FK5. It obediently fell within the 2 arcsecond rms specified in the model. There wasn't a huge change in AW, though it did become a little less negative. The model was implemented. coeff change value sigma 1 IE -7.233 -190.04 1.212 2 IA -6.791 -215.12 1.288 3 AN -0.250 -4.48 0.386 4 AW +2.143 -61.40 0.382 5 HWCA2 +0.310 -0.01 0.485 6 HWSA2 +0.282 -0.45 0.514 7 HNCA1 -0.207 -0.38 0.576 8 HNSA1 +0.645 +1.58 0.578 9 CA +8.498 +7.73 0.947 10 PZZ1 -5.389 -136.08 3.832 11 ACEC +0.418 -2.04 0.710 12 ACES -0.283 -2.19 0.692 13 TX +1.493 -3.30 1.769 Sky RMS = 2.09 Popn SD = 2.32 DATA ACQUISITION (see IOP/SOP output below): =========================================== IMAGING: -------- Run Stripe Strip Flavor Lambda Last Begin End Frame # Comments ------------------------------------------------------------------ 2240 100 O ignore -81.66 -68.86 37 doghouse SPECTROSCOPY: ------------- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ------ sequence 9564, plate 528 ------- 00:15 9564 0.0 bias {{}} OFFSETS: getclock Calib offsets Scale Time Ct Plate time Az El Rot Factor TAPES: Goes: none Stays: none MIRROR NUMBERS ============== PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: 0.0260 0.0150 Axial B: -0.0350 -0.0510 Axial C: 0.0360 0.0300 Trans D: 3.7680 3.7560 Lateral E: 1.9065 1.9100 Lateral F: 0.4075 0.4095 GALILS Commanded: 4890. -2755. 465. -6642. 8737. 8322. WEATHER SYNOPSIS ================ High clouds rolled in during the late afternoon. They remained stubbornly uniform and thick until about 03:30. They thinned enough to see stars over half the sky by 04:00, and skies were mostly clear by 05:00. It was dry with a light SW wind all night.
