However thick clouds might be to bad even for spectroscopy... SYNOPSIS FOR NIGHT: =================== Thick clouds at the sun set, waiting for some clear sky. TESTS: According to Scott's B. suggestion, that "loadC [...] -latest" doesn't necessarily load the latest plugmap, we issued "loadC" with and without "-latest" option. And indeed that option, doesn't guarantee that a loaded plugmap will be the latest one. See the folowing example (cut and pasted from a sop window): ------------------------- paste begins sp1>loadC 6 503 /p/iop/v3_36_10/params/cartridgeInfo.par Please choose one of the plugmap files below (-1 to escape) Choice Filename 0 /data/spectro/plugMapM/plPlugMapM-0503-51991-01.par 1 /data/spectro/plugMapM/plPlugMapM-0503-51958-01.par 2 /data/spectro/plugMapM/plPlugMapM-0503-51976-01.par ------------------------- paste ends So the latest plugmap is: plPlugMapM-0503-51991-01.par. What happened when we tried the same with the option: -latest ? : ------------------------- paste begins sp1> loadC 6 503 -latest /p/iop/v3_36_10/params/cartridgeInfo.par Loading map: /data/spectro/plugMapM/plPlugMapM-0503-51976-01.par Reading /data/spectro/plugMapM/plPlugMapM-0503-51976-01.par ------------------------- paste ends As you can see the "-latest" options loads: plPlugMapM-0503-51976-01.par, which is not the latest one. And this confirms Scott's suspectations. OBSERVATIONS (spectroscopy): 01:50 We opened - hoping that a hole in clouds will stay above us. 02:00 Cartridge 5 plate 540 on sky. WARNING: The Guider image for this plate shows centered stars only in fibers: 5, 6, 10 and 11, the rest stars are off centers! 02:40 Exposure aborted - threatening low (rainy?) clouds... 02:55 Closed, with cartridge 5 plate 540 mounted on the telescope. TELESCOPE STATUS: ================= Fans on: 18:10 with doors opened/cracked Opened: 01:50 Enclosure Closed: 02:55 fans off. Off business: 04:30, cartridge 5 plate 540 mounted, hoses hooked up. Clouds stayed throughout first part of the night, cleared out after 1:00, but went cloudy 1.5 hour later... GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== We had clouds at the start of the night. At 01:50 we opened and started with spectroscopy... and one hour later we closed due to the coming (rainy?) clouds - exposure aborted.
