Clearing up in the middle of the night, to resume cirrusy towards the latter half. GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== First up cart 1 plate 552. We started setup before twilight, but didn't find any stars, so off to an fk5 which required a BIG offset in az - almost 0.02deg (similar to what we saw last night.)! A subsequent gotoField found no stars, nor did an fk5InFiber -fiber 11 (was it the same Arabic music we were playing two nights ago?). Not trusting such a large az offset, we cleared the offsets and did an fk5InFiber -fiber 11, predictably finding no star. But were able to intuit it in with a much smaller az offset. Next, a gotoField again revealed no stars. We intuited a rotator direction and did subsequent rotator offsets. After about 200" of rotation, we found 3 guide stars and let the guider take over from there. (The Arabic music played on....) The final offsets can be found in the Spectro Data log section below. Quite a few exposures on this plate had LOW r1 values, so we kept going ending up with a usable (S/N)^2 of 48.5 in b2 and 16.7 in r1. Things were starting to clear, but it looked like a new batch of clouds were on the way, so we decided to do one more plate cart 2 plate 512. We finished this plate a little more easily and switched to imaging since the sky looked good and our and the 3.5m's seeing was good, although there was a little threat of northern thin clouds.... We started imaging on the 36S stripe, but got bad seeing. We went back to spectroscopy, getting nothing on 36S around 02:30. By this time the seeing was REALLY degenerating. The 3.5m Observer said she had to re-instruct the TCC as what a star looked like to get things working over there! Our seeing, when measured, was about 4.5". During closing, we ran over the East enclosure movement pendant cord. Judging by the tape on the cord, this was by far not the first time this happened. We PR'd this. endNight ran successfully. We rejoiced.
