Date: Sun, 4 Feb 2001 07:23:19 -0700 From: Dan Long Subject: 2.5m obslog 20010203 (MJD 51944) APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday February 3, 2001 (MJD 51944) OBSERVING TEAM: =============== Dan Long (APO) Jurek Krzesinski (APO) Bing Chen (JHU) PT Steph Snedden (APO) Scot Kleinman (APO) by phone Craig Loomis (APO) by phone Eric Neilsen (FNAL) by phone Peregrine McGehee (LANL) by phone VISITORS: ========= Photographers for Fortune magazine. THE PLAN: ========= Shakeup. Imager FASTT field if conditions allow. SYNOPSIS: ========= TCC v2.5.0b2 works with IOP v3_26_1 and mcp v4_4_5. bd17smear still can't get all the way through. We still see fiducial corrections during tracking. Lots of PRs were addressed. GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== There was about a 2 hour delay in opening due to high winds. At the start of the night we ran a test with the new TCC ( 2.5.0b2 ). While Russell hadn't really intended it to run the telescope, Craig worked his magic and got it set up with the exception of udp broadcast. This was enough however to allow us to pretty thoroughly test the IOP/SOP interaction with the new TCC keywords, as well as run the TCC through its paces. There were no problems here. PR 1557 was closed. We reverted to the old TCC for the rest of the night in the vain hope that we would be able to get a FASTT field during the night ( and put things in the headers ). The nice thing is that v3_26 works with either TCC! Version v2_2_2 of the tpm was installed. There were no new problems, but sadly the shared memory synchronization problem is still there. The new temperature sensor display ( now split in to three sections ) worked fine. m4l will not work with the new version of the tpm without using the corrupt option. Eric is going to get with Peregrine on this. ( PR 1750 ) We still see fiducial corrections in azimuth and elevation while tracking ( sorry Robert, it's still here ). ( PR 1696 ). murmur and fiducial log details at the end of the log. goStare in v3_26_0 would hang taking a spectro bias. Eric traced it to some error handling of flavors that was added. He made a patch (v3_26_1) which simply used the goStare code of v3_25_4 for tonight. He will look into the problem in more detail later. bd17smear was tested again tonight. It still loses the star about half way through. Though tonight it wasn't entirely clear whether it was pointing or clouds which caused the failure. It also tries to take guider exposures before the initial slew ends. The flatfield screen indeed must be closed for a calibration sequence to take place. We pulled the plug on the screen when open and then issued a preCalib. It timed out after a minute of waiting for it to close. There was quite the photo-fest at the telescope tonight. Steph did a great job of coordinating photographers needs and those of shakeup. The Fortune magazine photographers think they got some good shots.
