SYNOPSIS: ========= Nearly another great night. Good seeing, but not always photometric. 2131 34 S lambda -63 to -43 cloud free 2133 36 S lambda -6 to 9 cloud free 2134 36 S lambda 8 to 23 cloud free, " 34 to 43, and 46 to 60 probably cloud free GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== The optics were homed during the afternoon. The only noticeable change was in the lateral mig values on the primary, which changed by .002 inches. Out of focus donuts at the start of the night looked reasonably evenly illuminated, though one could see thermal effects. This however didn't keep us from getting 1.2 arcsecond images by astronomical twilight. Seeing was reasonable all night, usually running between 1.1 and 1.5 arcseconds depending on where you looked on the array. The night started out clear and we prepared to image stripe 34 S. We setup and were taking science data by 19:30. It remained clear until 20:30 when whisps of cirrus moved in. Satellite images showed a thin line of cloud moving through southern NM, with the rest of the state in the clear. We decided to wait for this to move through. Around 21:00, this line began dissipating except for a patch ( you guessed it ) over the Sacramentos. By 22:00 the entire state was clear except here. Here it was too cloudy to even do spectroscopy. Being the eternal optimists we are, we decided to give it a little more time to clear off, in hopes of grabbing 36 S in the second half of the night. By 23:00 it was looking like it would clear. By midnight it was, and we got about an hours data on 36 S (2133), then another batch of clouds formed overhead shortly after 01:00, and kept us down for about 40 minutes. 2134 ran the rest of the night. Much of the run was in the clear, but there were a couple of times when thin whisps drifted through. It is noted in the log below. Note on offsetting. It appears one must use the following sign convention to translate the errors provided by skippy into calibration offsets for the TCC. The azimuth correction has the same sign as the listed error, altitude and rotator are of the opposite sign. When closing tonight, we got dewar 4 voltages errors. The first iack cleared everything but vp12 pos and neg. A second iack cleared those. Thanks Connie, that's much easier than power cycling or swapping supplies!
