The watcher reported mcpCmdLog file error messages (see problem #1 for details). We also saw several occuranges of messages related to encoders (see problem #2). We relaxed the primary mirror. We focused the engineering camera and checked the instrument block by tracking on an fk5 star, noting the position of the star reported by gcam dofind, applying three 90 deg rotator offsets, finding the star at each and taking the mean position. The mean position should be the center of the engineering (guide) camera at (row, col) = (384. 256). The measured position was (386.8, 250.7). This is a mean radial error of 6.0 pixels, or 0.9 arcsec at 0.15 arcsec/pixel. We deemed this acceptable. We observed a 72-point grid, chosing GRID_12_6_20_85_T_30.DAT. However, the lower altitude limit on this grid (20 deg), caused an axis abort on two stasr that were below 20 deg (a known problem, PR2431) from which we recovered using the instructions in folklore. It also tried to observe one star that was the other side of the enclosure!). We should have chosen GRID_9_8_27_88_T_30.DAT which does not go below 27 deg alt. We abandoned the observations after 50 points as (a) the dewpoint depression was down to 3C, and (b) it was 10 minutes before sunrise. We tried fitting the 50 points to the existing model and got and RMS error of 9.7 arcsec, indicating that the existing model is not good. A plot of the errors showed a spiral pattern in compass projection, which we interpret (perhaps wrongly) as indicating the errors are due to a difference in azimuth positions. We note that a new azimuth fiducial table was NOT implemented in the version of MCP being used (v5_7_2), Fitting the 50 points to a new model allowing all parameters to change gave an RMS error of 1.4 arcsec. However, as the observations were incomplete, we did not implement it. We will consult with Dan on this situation later today. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Stripe Flavor Lambda Last Begin End Frame Comments ------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot --------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot --------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument getclock Az Alt Rot Scale ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: None Stays: None ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:58 eng cam 1.00000 0 -2538 -200 121 56.4 3.3 10 179 -- 1.5" ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 18:31 41 33 17 145 (SE) 575 - Overcast 19:02 40 34 15 127 (SE) 605 - " 19:32 40 35 17 123 (ESE) 572 - " 20:04 41 35 11 111 (ESE) 521 - " 20:37 40 35 9 108 (ESE) 480 - " 21:08 40 35 14 123 (ESE) 497 - Variable 21:41 39 35 18 132 (SE) 543 - " 22:13 39 35 18 124 (SE) 574 - " 22:45 39 36 15 124 (SE) 555 - " 23:17 39 36 15 128 (SE) 584 - " 23:50 40 36 15 146 (SE) 573 - " 00:22 39 36 16 145 (SE) 576 - " 00:54 39 36 17 137 (SE) 524 - " 01:26 38 35 18 154 (SSE) 534 - " 01:58 38 34 14 173 (S) 498 - Clear 02:30 37 33 12 172 (S) 441 - " 03:03 38 31 12 177 (S) 386 - " 03:35 38 30 11 178 (S) 386 - " 04:07 37 31 10 171 (S) 441 - Variable 04:39 38 29 12 179 (S) 403 - " 05:12 38 31 8 181 (S) 492 - " 05:44 38 32 9 180 (S) 517 - " 06:16 38 32 9 179 (S) 520 - " 06:48 38 32 8 169 (S) 518 - " ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 03:35 Fans on, enclosure off 06:10 Enclosure on, fans off Status at end of night Telescope stowed at: 30 deg Instrument mounted: Engineering camera Counterweights at: 130 Autofill systems: On 180L LN2 dewar weights: Spectro 290 lb Imager 161 lb Interlocks bypassed: Slip detection and building motion. ---=== SOFTWARE USED ===--- IOP/SOP: v3_60_2 (test) Watcher: v2_12_1 MCP: v5_7_2 (test) TPM: v2_4_3 (test) AstroDa: v14_39 TCC: 2.5.5 sdssProcedures: v1_32 ---=== MIRROR NUMBERS ===--- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A 0.0770 0.0710 Axial B 0.8040 0.8030 Axial C 0.0660 0.0640 Trans D -1.4890 -1.4590 Lateral E 1.8740 1.8600 Lateral F 1.4260 1.4280 GALILS Commanded: 5400. -3700. 900. -200. 31550. 30650. Watcher reported the following errors, which we have not seen before: Cannot open mcpCmdLog-52219.dat: S nfsLib NFSERR NOENT (Cannot open mcpCmdLog-52219.dat: S_nfsLib_NFSERR_NOENT (Nov 06 03:46:46): Nov 06 03:46:56 MST) Can't create /mcptpm/mcp/52219: S errno EACCES (Can't create /mcptpm/mcp/52219: S_errno_EACCES (Nov 06 03:46:46): Nov 06 03:46:56 MST ) ---------------------------------------------------------------- Problem #2 - MCP errors related to encoders Watcher reported several instances of error messages from MCP related to encoder positions. If these messages are benign, then we hope they will be supressed in the watcher, as we do not like red (flag) herrings. Message examples: azimuth (Encoders for axis azimuth differ by 20226 (Nov 06 03:47:42): Nov 06 03:47:46 MST ) rotator (rotator: took 2 attempts to read MEI latch status (Nov 06 03:49:15): Nov 06 03:49:23 MST ) ----------------------------------------------------------------
