Date: Thu, 25 Oct 2001 06:52:40 -0600 (MDT) From: jurek@apo.nmsu.edu (Jurek Krzesinski) Subject: 2.5m obslog 20011024 (MJD 52207) APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday October 24, 2001 (MJD 52207) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Night: Jurek Krzesinski, Pete Newman (APO) Swing: Eric Neilsen (FNAL) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! Spectroscopy untill moonset, then imaging. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- No major problems happened during the night. Spectroscopy: four plates observed, - three plates done (cart 1 plt 727, cart 2 plt 733 and cart 8 plt 547) - for cart 4 plt 726 we've got 7.3 (S/N)^2 Imaging: 1 hour of good quality data taken between lambda: 176-160. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- 18:25 telescope opened, cart 1 plt 727 mounted. SPECTROSCOPY: 19:40 cart 1 plt 727 - gotoField didn't extend slitheads, we noticed that TPM reported INST ID 3: disconnected. We wen't back to the telescope and remounted the cart, this time slitheads were extendend from MCP and it worked. TPM INST IDs showed cart 1 mounted. Could you check the latches in that cart, please? 19:21 gotoField - no stars, fk5 no starOct 24 19:21:18 sdssmcp tLatch We were just about to replace cart 1, when we noticed: Oct 24 19:21:18 sdssmcp tLatch dsc_E_trcErr correction for altitude -5018 is too large And we traced that problem to the moment when MCP has been rebooted. What we found out is, that during fiducializing, we started with az axis and were slewing the telescope in az. Then we heard a strange noise, so we pressed a stop button. It appeared that there was a screw under rotating floor, so Larry removed it, but we did not finished fiducialising afterwards, and got into trouble. We set fiducials in alt again and 19:37 gotoField - found stars at once. Seeing is superior: 1.1'' and sometimes subarcsecond. First exposure lost, because aborting precalib (the precalib button was accidently pressed and we wanted to stop that precalib) didn't switch the ff lamp off. And we didn't noticed this until we've got a bad (S/N)^2. However, because we observe very close to the moon, (S/N)^2 is still low (2.6 in b1 at 900 sec int time). Plate done with 4 exposures. 22:04 cart 2 plt 733 mounted -stars found wiht no problem. Plate done. 23:40 cart 4 plt 726 mounted -stars found after clearing offsets. (S/N)^2 for the first exposure was 2.8 at 1200 sec int time. We decided to take another one and switch to imaging. Plate not done. IMAGING: 01:55 Imager mounted - taking bias frames on the telescope. run 2677, stripe 82 N 01:17 In focus, frame 32 (foc=-330 at temp. 8.8 C). 01:23 Science: frame 38 start lambda 176. Seeing: 0.95 mesured on chip 23 (filter: i, dewar:3) Warning: 02:35-02:55 02:35 Cloud camera shows VERY thin clouds close to SW horison. Note that one faint cloud might have crosed the view field. Warnig at frames: 160 (lambda-157 deg) to frame 188 (lambda -153). Warning: 03:10-03:30 03:10 VERY thin clouds might have crosed the wiev filed: frames 214 (lambda -150) to frame: end. Looks like we were hit by very thin clouds not visible on a satelite map. However 1 hour imager data between lambda: 176-160 , frames 38-187 are good quality data. Run 2678 DONUTS: +-400 around foucus (-330). frame in foucus(-330): 12 frame out of focus(-730): 16 frame out of focus( 69): 20 Thin clouds might have crosed the donut frames. Frames copied to: /data/photo/optics/52207 SPECTROSCOPY 03:45 changing to spectroscopy. 04:15 cart 8 plt 547 - stars found with cleared offsets. 04:42 we've done cart 8 plt 547 with two additional exposures, and since there was no more plates to observe we continued observing this plate. Imager remnants: Focus loop didn't stop after stopFocusLoop (PR 2375 reopened)- we noticed it, when our focus (during spectroscopy setup) had been changed. No major problem happened during the night. endNight is running. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Stripe Flavor Lambda Last Begin End Frame Comments ------------------------------------------------------------------ 2675 100 O bias 86.82 89.06 29 should be ignore!!! 2676 100 O bias -154.05 -150.49 38 bias at the telescope. 2677 82 N science -180.75 -145.09 251 2678 82 N calibration -144.10 -141.61 30 ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot --------------------------------------------------------------- 2677 11 4 9 5.100 0.832 -5.500 1.624 -0.02958 2677 16 4 47 -6.400 0.160 -4.300 0.126 -0.02100 2677 20 4 49 -6.500 0.099 -4.300 0.095 -0.02063 2677 22 4 54 -6.200 0.574 -4.300 0.864 -0.01103 2677 30 4 43 -7.500 1.845 -3.600 1.560 0.00394 2677 57 4 46 0.700 0.098 0.300 0.106 0.00922 2677 57 4 46 0.700 0.098 0.300 0.106 0.00922 2677 92 4 33 0.500 0.090 0.300 0.066 0.00926 2677 125 4 46 0.400 0.084 0.200 0.088 0.00941 2677 160 4 34 -0.100 0.115 0.000 0.110 0.00975 2677 195 4 39 -0.200 0.118 -0.400 0.111 0.00956 2677 229 4 49 -0.200 0.119 -0.400 0.102 0.00934 ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot --------------------------------------------------------------- 2677 27 1 14 16.957 16.957 6.732 6.733 -0.02263 2677 27 1 18 16.780 16.781 6.810 6.812 -0.02289 2677 27 1 25 16.487 16.488 6.877 6.878 -0.02312 2677 27 1 15 16.191 16.191 6.802 6.803 -0.02287 2677 27 1 18 15.963 15.963 6.938 6.939 -0.02333 2677 34 1 20 17.302 17.302 6.710 6.713 -0.02256 2677 34 1 16 17.057 17.057 6.635 6.637 -0.02231 2677 34 1 23 16.777 16.777 6.571 6.572 -0.02209 2677 34 1 10 16.602 16.602 6.596 6.597 -0.02218 2677 34 1 11 16.384 16.384 6.548 6.550 -0.02201 2677 67 1 15 1.083 1.090 -4.015 4.016 0.01350 2677 67 1 19 0.803 0.824 -4.155 4.158 0.01397 2677 67 1 23 0.545 0.555 -4.388 4.389 0.01475 2677 67 1 6 0.396 0.404 -4.184 4.186 0.01407 2677 67 1 10 0.142 0.189 -4.285 4.287 0.01440 2677 102 1 16 1.221 1.231 -5.069 5.072 0.01704 2677 102 1 10 1.085 1.090 -5.025 5.025 0.01689 2677 102 1 29 0.905 0.908 -4.825 4.827 0.01622 2677 102 1 17 0.614 0.619 -4.930 4.931 0.01657 2677 102 1 11 0.397 0.409 -4.880 4.881 0.01640 2677 137 1 11 0.532 0.537 -4.454 4.454 0.01497 2677 137 1 10 0.251 0.271 -4.365 4.366 0.01467 2677 137 1 15 0.048 0.124 -4.339 4.343 0.01459 2677 137 1 11 0.804 3.529 -4.266 4.314 0.01434 2677 137 1 10 -0.383 0.397 -4.470 4.471 0.01503 2677 171 1 17 0.941 0.954 -4.635 4.637 0.01558 2677 171 1 15 0.712 0.734 -4.754 4.757 0.01598 2677 171 1 17 0.527 0.553 -4.556 4.561 0.01532 2677 171 1 19 0.174 0.237 -4.776 4.780 0.01606 2677 171 1 15 0.131 0.184 -4.588 4.592 0.01542 2677 204 1 19 1.230 1.236 -4.476 4.479 0.01505 2677 204 1 13 1.116 1.125 -4.422 4.429 0.01487 2677 204 1 16 1.002 1.012 -4.445 4.448 0.01495 2677 204 1 19 0.724 0.752 -4.593 4.595 0.01544 2677 204 1 21 0.699 0.722 -4.519 4.520 0.01519 ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 11501, plate -9999 ------- 00:10 11501 0.0 bias ----- sequence 11501, plate 727 ------- 01:43 11502 10.0 flat 01:45 11503 2.0 arc 02:15 11504 803.0 target 02:40 11505 801.0 target 02:54 11506 701.0 target 03:16 11507 1201.0 target 03:36 11508 1001.0 target 03:43 11509 240.0 smear 03:45 11510 10.0 flat 03:47 11511 2.0 arc ----- sequence 11512, plate 733 ------- 03:57 11512 10.0 flat 04:00 11513 2.0 arc 04:21 11514 900.0 target 04:46 11515 1351.0 target 05:11 11516 1351.0 target 05:18 11517 240.0 smear ----- sequence 11518, plate 726 ------- 05:31 11518 10.0 flat 05:33 11519 2.0 arc 06:02 11520 1201.0 target 06:25 11521 1200.0 target 06:31 11522 240.0 smear ----- sequence 11523, plate 547 ------- 10:10 11523 10.0 flat 10:12 11524 2.0 arc 10:38 11525 900.0 target 10:56 11526 901.0 target 11:03 11527 240.0 smear 11:25 11528 901.0 target 11:43 11529 901.0 target 11:46 11530 10.0 flat 11:48 11531 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument getclock Az Alt Rot Scale ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 20:02 1 727 1003975332 0.002538 -0.000645 0.033565 0.999760 21:20 1 727 1003980019 0.002538 -0.000645 0.033565 0.999760 22:07 2 733 1003982869 0.003868 -0.000626 -0.003004 0.999690 23:42 4 726 1003988570 0.001190 -0.001124 0.006263 0.999820 02:04 imager 1003997072 0.002162 0.000932 -0.023317 1.000000 04:42 8 547 1004006565 0.001032 -0.000330 -0.025744 1.000230 05:28 8 547 1004009326 0.001032 -0.000330 -0.025744 1.000210 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL4574 Stays: JL4575 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 20:02 1 727 0.99976 2369 3058 -40 -5 67.2 9.3 6 303 -
