SYNOPSIS FOR NIGHT: =================== High winds and DA problems kept us closed until midnight. After that, spectroscopy. We *may* have missed an imaging opportunuty, but seeing was marginal, so maybe not. GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== The M2 galil status during afternoon checkout was good. We mounted the imager at sunset and opened at 18:15. Winds immediately picked up to gusts of over 40 mph. We closed again at 18:35. The cart air spring pressure was low on gauge 1. Mike recorded a value of 30 psi. The others were fine. While closed, we ran imager biases (imager on telescope) and Connie ran experiments (tweaked voltage levels) on the bad u3 chip. The chip is still not giving normal biases. We ran into problems with the id2 and id3 nodes unmounting during the biases. After a few attempts at rebooting the crate, we decided to replace the tapes (they had been used for a few days), then rebooted all the crates. The ad and photo crate 2 monitors failed to come up into the normal blue state. Calls to Connie, Ron R. and Craig (sequentially) followed. Ron thinks the problem is a network problem. Craig thinks it is in the video processor, because all the ftp sessions during reboots completed normally, but subsequent pings to the video processors did not return. We speculate it may have happened while Connie or one of us had an iop session going and communicating with the video card at the same time we rebooted the crates, but we really don't know. At midnight, the winds had gone down, and we had no video processor resolution, so we decided to switch to spectroscopy. Eric continued troubleshooting the video problem with Craig, while Mike & Steph went down to switch to a cartridge. See the problems section for details on the video processor problems. While removing the imager, we saw that air spring 3 had dropped down to 25 psi. When we pressurized it, Mike heard and felt air escaping from the connection at the SW corner of the cart & tried to tighten it down but the air kept escaping. The pressure would then drop back down to 25 within a few seconds. We decided to lower the imager and keep repressurizing the cart as we carefully rolled it into the doghouse. The odd thing was that as soon as the cart was back on the ground and repressurized, the pressure held. So, French, go figure. We then proceded to complete two plates (489 and 285) with no problems. Note for that b2 for frame 8365 never appeared in the son of spectro reductions. This happened last night as well, for frame 8339 of plate 473.
