SYNOPSIS FOR NIGHT: =================== One plate done, several PRs tested/closed. No imaging scientific data. TELESCOPE STATUS: ================= Stowed at 30 deg alt with the imager. INTERLOCKS: =========== None bypassed SOFTWARE USED: ============== IOP/SOP: v3_17_5a Watcher: v2_8_3 MCP: v4_3_2 TPM: v2_0_0 AstroDa: 14_33 TCC: 2.4.0b2 WEATHER SYNOPSIS (see below for hourly data): ============================================= clear with variable seeing (from 1.4 to 3") GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== Start with Spectro since the wind was from the east. We started with cart2,plate 356. During setup, we had to rotate the rotator about 400" before we could get all the guide stars in the fiber. This is the same amount we had to rotate last night as well. After plate 356, we put cart 4 plate 360 on the telescope. Estimating from the first 2 exposures, we were sure we could get the s/2>60 with 3 exposures. We then went on to do diamond point. While doing diamond point, SOS told us that the b2 and r2 needed more data to achieve s/n>60. So we took additional exposure. Scott B. looked the display of the 4th science exposure and immediately noticed that the sp2's CCD are getting warm. We rushed to the telescope to fill the dewars. Note that the dewars were filled at the beginning of the night, but we now believe they were not filled until they were full. The CCDs went back to the nominal temperature within an hour or so. This problem was not reported by the watcher. The server for sp1 and sp2 had screen full of ftelnet connection refused messages. After we logged out of the spectro ports, the watcher was able to talk to the spectrographs again. Apparently when "grabInstruments -handlers 80" is issued from sop, it does not allow watcher to check on the status of the spectrographs any more. A PR was filed. After we filled the spectrograph dewars, we changed instruments to the imager. Since the moon was coming up and the imager/iop has not been shaken yet, we decided to shake the imager/iop. The focus seems to be varying large. As an example, the focus plot showed the CCD60 and 90 changing from -120 to -500 in 5 frames. This makes it rather hard for the focus loop to keep up. Our first try of skippy failed with a long error message. The cheat sheet says skippy failure with long error message happens when the GANGS files are already transferred to host and to try again. So we did, but failed again. We ended up doing "lskip" the old fashion way. By the time this was done, we were in the morning twilight so we stopped the run. endNight -doImager -doSpectro -doTpm ran successfully. The only scientific data is cart2 plate 351. We have no imaging data to be processed. But I wanted to test endNight -doImager -doSpectro -doTpm for shake down purpose and that resulted in the email with both imaging and spectro tapes to be shipped. (I could not come up how I can do endNight -doImager -doSpectro -doTpm and still only ship spectro tape.) But there is no need for the imaging tapes to be shipped and I sent email saying so to the tape shippers. *****Time when slew command was issued***** (the below are approximate time.
