Subject: 3jul00 51729 SDSS Night Log Date: Tue, 4 Jul 2000 02:42:18 -0600 (MDT) From: sjnk@apo.nmsu.edu (Scot Kleinman) Monday, July 3, 2000 Apache Point Observatory SDSS 2.5m Observing Log (MJD 51729) OBSERVING TEAM: =============== Atsuko Nitta Kleinman (APO) Scot Kleinman (APO) Jon Brinkman (APO) - phone Eric Neilsen (JHU) PT VISITORS: ========= Mamoru Doi (JPG) - phone THE PLAN: ========= Shakeup? Calibrations? Science? SYNOPSIS FOR NIGHT: =================== We were unable to complete the calibrations due to needing a certified crane-operator to open the penthouse up and attempt to fix the known problems there. Our next opportunity will be Wednesday morning, so we are swapping tonight's shift with one on Wednesday morning/afternoon/night to (hopefully and finally) get the needed calibration data. No data tonight. The downstairs imager ln2 pressure dewar needs to be swapped out, but we could not do it. Day staff - please see the LN2 section below. Imager dewar swapped at 02:30 with a weight of ~240lb (the previous dewar had about 80lb left). The lower level imager nitrogen pressure dewar appears empty, but we apparently do not know the trick to getting the gauges/plumbing off as they would not come off with a more than moderate amount of force applied to the locking nut. Could the day staff please check into this? PROBLEMS: ========= WEATHER DATA: ============= Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky Precip.
