Calibrations if lightning and technology permit. SYNOPSIS FOR NIGHT: =================== Clouds all night. We attempted more calibrations, found solutions for some of last night's problems, but not all. The rest will require work between Jon B. and Mamoru. No valid calibration data tonight. TELESCOPE STATUS: ================= Telescope at stow, 30degrees altitude, cartridge 7 installed. A/C system in "auto" mode. Cover is on imager. Jon Brinkman was on the phone to help us get the monochrometer working. By the time we got everything set up the lightning came in (4pm) so we unattached everything and waited to the storm to pass. Lightning and clouds continued all around us for the afternoon evening. Afternoon check out was done with out problems. Lightning at beginning of night prevented us from stating calibration experiments immediately. By the time things calmed down, Mamoru called from Japan and talked about the flux problem (we were getting ~80,000 counts which really is too low) and the never-ending sequence of images last night (probably the old dervish bug which causes commands to be executed repeatedly.) About 5 minutes later, Jon called in to say he hadn't taken off the camera cover yesterday afternoon and that probably explains the low flux. I took the camera cover off and flux is now around 220,000 - which is acceptable according to Mamoru's document. For details of the calibration images, see the IMAGING section below. Actually, on reading a more recent email from Mamoru, we should have 1e7 and not 1e5! A call to Mamoru reveals that 2e5 is definitely not acceptable, so we stopped taking data to investigate the few suggestions in his email: 1) +/- 12v cables are connected properly. 2) output protection is on - then off- no change. 3) output current for 12V is 0.04 as it should be. 4) 50pin flat connector is secure. With Mamoru on the phone, we checked out all we could without opening the penthouse and it all looked OK. Mamoru will email Jon B. about what to do, presumably in the afternoon on Sunday. We disconnected all the cables and put the COVER back on the camera. Same notes as last night regarding endNight.
