Subject: 2.5m obs log 08 June 2000 (MJD 51704) Date: Fri, 9 Jun 2000 04:03:54 -0600 (MDT) From: hayes@apo.nmsu.edu (Jeffrey Hayes) [mail to: obs-report-25m@apo.nmsu.edu include MJD in subject] Thursay June 8 2000 Apache Point Observatory SDSS 2.5m Observing Log (MJD 51704) OBSERVING TEAM: =============== Atsuko Nitta Kleinman (APO) Scot Kleinman (APO) Jeffrey Hayes (APO) Ellyne Kinney (APO) Bryan Laubscher (LANL) Eric Neilsen (JHU) PT Armin Rest (UW) DIMM John Briggs (APO) DIMM VISITORS: ========= THE PLAN: ========= Shake with new versions of iop, sop, astroDA, TCC. SYNOPSIS FOR NIGHT: =================== The weather we absolutely terrible. High winds, high humidity, and lots of cloud prevented us from opening. In addition it started to rain at 02:00. We did what tests we could with the telescope inside (separate e-mail), and went to bed at 04:00. TELESCOPE STATUS: ================= In stow, cartridge 6 on the telescope. DIMM: ----- INTERLOCKS: =========== none bypassed SOFTWARE USED: ============== IOP/SOP: v3_17_0 Watcher: v2_8_2 MCP: v4_2_4 TPM: v1_0_8 AstroDa: 14_29 TCC: 2.3.0 WEATHER SYNOPSIS (see below for hourly data): ============================================= Just plain awful. The clouds did not abate and the humidity started to rise by 01:30. It 02:00, the rain started. We gave up at 04:00. GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== Before dark: The new version of iop, v3_17_0, was cut. endNight failed and a PR was submitted. MCP was rebooted since the menu was unresponsive. A new command in sop, specFlats, were tested and failed (PR was filed). The error messages and tb are copied into the problem section below. Scot tried fixing the bugs in specFlats. He fixed it so that it will run through the end. We would like to have David S. to check the frames, and Scot checked back in the bug fixed specFlats command. "grabInstrumets" not grabing and holding on to the ports are quite annoying. I hope it will be fixed soon. The new version of tccmon was tested and found to be good. After dark: The DIMM folks waited around till 01:30 and then decided to give up as the weather was unco-operative. The portable DIMM was packed up and ready to ship by 02:30. Separate e-mail will be sent to the appropriate parties concerning the requested tests. Tested "spawn" in the new version of the TCC, and it works. Tested "gcam" in the new version of the TCC, and it works. Tested "queue" command in the new version of the TCC, it does seem to work. PRs: iop/1071 -- closed as replaced by "skippy" which works. iop/1025 -- closed as worked in v3_16_2, but new PR as broken in v_3_17_0. sop/1036 -- clsoed as known to work. tcc/1052 -- closed, tested and works. Given the dreadful weather we called it a night at 04:00.
