  My understanding was that grabInst failed to connect to different sets of
ports on different attempts. With that in mind, I was hoping to see whether
whatever grabInst boils down to was really trying to establish TCP
connections to all requested ports when it failed. Unfortunately, it never
failed while we were watching (only three tries).
  What does grabInst boil down to?
