Hartman tests if the weather lets up. SYNOPSIS FOR NIGHT: =================== The weather was even worse than last night. Rain started at 20:00. A few tests were made during the afternoon and evening, but we had no chance to go on the sky. TELESCOPE STATUS: ================= In stow, and 30 deg, with engineering camera on the telescope. No conical baffle or second corrector. After that, humid, cloudy with periods of rain for the whole night. GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== Before dark: We tested the archiver to see what would happen if shost went down while we were doing a drift. We tried this twice and the data taking went on with out problems. We were able to end the drift once host was back up and the GANG tranfer restarted with out problems. The only hiccup was that the run log would not get generated if host was down during a crash. Maybe this was due to the fact that the GANG transfer was not finished when endNight was run. We are not sure whether to file this as a bug. The Primary and Secondary were both homed after the work Craig and Peregrine did on the galils. The Imager, Spectrographs and Engineering Camera were all tested this afternoon. Work continues on the procedures. The telescope was fiducialised at 19:00 in the hope we could open. After dark: We waited in vain for the weather to clear. We made the nightly check of setEngCam, and the stage motion appeared to be fine. Although Jon B. and Steph talked about setting up for QE tests of the imager CCDs, the threat of lightning kept us from doing this. We continued to look for more instances of wrong num of pix from the spectrographs. Out of 74 bias frames we saw a total of nine wrong num of pix errors on sp2 (nine for the red camera, nine for the blue). This is a higher frequency than was seen yesterday. The problem is still with us and needs to be tracked down. The murmur log entries are appended to the problems section. EndNight was run (no tape ship option) so that the appropriate files would be copied.
