Winds out of the north, switching to the east at about midnight. GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== Before Dark: Atsuko tried again to set the spectrographs to nominal position. With the goSpecFocus that works, things looked promising. But we found out that the missing pixel problems confuses David's Soppito routines. Without reliable numbers from Soppito, we cannot know if the spectrographs positions are where we want or not. David worked on how to change his code so that it can deal with the missing pixel frames. The fixes were accomplished by midnight. Positioning the fibers and positioning the spectra in wavelength took about two hours. About ten iterations were done, but this was probably more than necessary. We would like to understand the chosen tolerances better, so we know if this many iterations are really needed. goSpecFocus ran succesfully. Larry C. put a shim on the slithead index pin of cartridge 2 to bring the guide fibers into better focus. Unfortunately, the correction had a sign error, so we are now a little more out of focus. Not to worry. Tomorrow Larry plans to shave a bit off the pin, and that should correct the problem.
