Subject: 2.5m obs log 20000508 (mjd 51673) Date: Tue, 9 May 2000 05:15:12 -0600 (MDT) From: hayes@apo.nmsu.edu (Jeffrey Hayes) [mail to: obs-report-25m@apo.nmsu.edu include MJD in subject] Monday May 08 2000 Apache Point Observatory SDSS 2.5m Observing Log (MJD 51673) OBSERVING TEAM: =============== Jeffrey Hayes (APO) - shift 2 Ellyne Kinney (APO) - shift 2 Eric Neilsen (JHU) PT VISITORS: ========= Richard Kron (UC) THE PLAN: ========= Due to moon and cirrus, spectra. SYNOPSIS FOR NIGHT: =================== We had cartridge 8 on form last night. As there is only moon, wind, and low dust, we will persue spectra from this plate. We also did 2 integrations on Cart 6/ plate 345. We clsoed up just after twilight. TELESCOPE STATUS: ================= DIMM: ----- Open and reporting sub-arcsecond (!) seeing. INTERLOCKS: =========== None bypassed. SOFTWARE USED: ============== IOP/SOP: v3_13_1branch_1 Watcher: v2_8_2 MCP: v4_2_4 TPM: v1_0_8 AstroDa: 14_24 TCC: 2.2.5 WEATHER SYNOPSIS (see below for hourly data): ============================================= Not photometric. GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== We fiducialised the telescope by 00:45. Hayes set up "sop" and all went well until we tried to run "startMon". It would not function at all, but gave a traceback appended below in the problems section. We bailed from "sop" once to make sure it was not a simple problem, but no luck. (This is the reason for the 2 biases initially.) We then tried again, and had success. Who knows? Plate 313 was done in 5 integrations according to SOS, and we did 2 on plate 345. endNight was run successfully. We were unable to bring the telescope back up to 30 degrees after we got the building back in place. Each time we tried to clear the brake it would rengage. We used the manula pendant to bring the telscope back up to the stow position, but that did not work either: we could not get control. We therefore left the telescope at 6 degrees; and did not refill the spectrographs. We also swapped out the N2 cylander in the basement for the imager.
