SYNOPSIS: ========= It permitted for a while. Opened shortly before midnight after clouds cleared. Completed plate 348. Got 3 exposures on plate 353 before clouds forced us to close at about 04:00. GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== Before Dark: Host decided to reboot itself around 2:45pm. French has told us to: 1. Bring Az and Rot into the stow position first 2. and only then move Alt above 70. so that the scope will not vibrate when it goes to inst change position. David and I tried to adjust the positions of fibers on CCDs to match the nominal values since they were slightly off. During this, he and Alan became concerned of the missing pixel problems we have been having. Alan and David talked to Ron and we decided to clean the heads of the fiber optics to see if that will help. It did not. We then swapped the sp1 and sp2 fiber optics that goes into the FOXY card. We took a bias and then, as expected, we saw the red lines (missing pix) on the sp1 display. This helped us eliminate the problem to be at the telescope end. Alan noticed that the sp2 fiber optics was tortured where it connects to the black electronics box. Tomorrow morning Alan and David will try switch the sp2 fiber optics to the spare one. We then went back to trying to adjust the spectrographs positions. But we found that the Soppito was broken. Luckily we had David to fix it. We believe the rebootings we done while trying to determine what causes the missing pixels in sp2 caused Soppito to break, although we are not sure how. We could not finish adjusting the position before the night team opened for observing, therefore we put the position to where it was last night. We will try this again tomorrow afternoon. We opened shortly before midnight and managed to finish plate 348 in reasonably clear skies. Plate 350 went on around 2:30 and we got three exposures but did not get to finish it before clouds rolled back in about half an hour before astronomical twilight. For most of the night we would get sporadic complaints from the watcher that the secondary dewar pressure on sp2 was too low. The pressure was fine and the cameras filled without trouble when a fill was triggered and the temperatures were in spec as well. The error is apparently not real. Could there be a problem with the sensor in sp2?
