Connie continues her work on the imager. The nightcrew will take spectro data, and a small pointing model during the moonlit time. SYNOPSIS FOR NIGHT: =================== IOP v3_16_2 was cut and tested, but is not yet the current version. Spectroscopy: Plate 293 was declared done. Plate 312 may be done, but it has not been declared so. A 36 star pointing model was done. TELESCOPE STATUS: ================= The telescope is in the enclosure with the engineering camera on at an altitude of 33 degrees. INTERLOCKS: =========== None bypassed. GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== Before Dark: The day crew used a special version of MCP to do engineering work. After they were done, we switched MCP version back to v4_2_4. We cut iop v3_16_2. We tried testing endNight with this version when Connie did not mind us interrupting her. We originally tried to run endNight to archive the spectro bias and imager bias 1504 (the others are Connie's bias tests), but I could not figure out how to just archive that frame. It tried to archive 1505 even after flushing the archiver que. I did not understand how to get around this. So, we went ahead to test, endNight -doSpectro MJD and it ran successfully, but asked about the which imager data to be archived at the beginning which need not be asked as the command specified to archive the spectro data only. I filed a PR. By the time we finished We then ran, endNight -doImager MJD and it ran successfully. The watcher complained about CCD 04 and 64 's temperatures. They seem to be only slightly off the tolerance. When we were on the phone with Connie, we mentioned this and she said she will take a look. We record some values for these CCDs below. Time CCD 04 Temp CCD 64 Temp 18:00 -86.5* -30.64* 23:00 -88.7 -30.08* 01:30 -88.7 -31.64 03:15 -88.7 -32.81 *=red display on Watcher (out of spec) The enclosure suffered an overheat condition and stopped while opening, after it had moved about 5 feet. See the problems section below. After Dark: Once the building was open, we proceded to do spectroscopy. The first cartridge was 2, plate 293. Seeing was around 1.8-2.0 arcsec from the guider and 1.1-1.5 arcsec from DIMM. Given the seeing, four exposures (15 min) were needed. This cartridge was declared done. We timed diamondPoint2 again, per Andy's request. It took 11 minutes the first time and 10 minutes the second time. We note that there is a delay of about one minute between each "appending BEGIN" and "appending END". We next installed cartridge 5, plate 312 and reset the altitude fiducial. Once we included the offsets determined from the previous plate, stars appeared in 6 fibers. Three guider iterations brought all the stars in. A total of five exposures were taken for this plate, however the last was taken in moonlight. Because of this, we have not declared this plate done. The spectro folks can look at the data and let us know if the four exposures taken before moonrise will suffice. Four exposures gave us a (S/N)^2 of 77...close! Az El Rot Fiducial change between cart 2 and cart 5: 1" 5" - A change request was filed asking that the star images' orientations in startMon match the actual orientations of the fibers on the plate (DOP/1076). We then mounted the engineering camera, reset the fiducials, and started a 36-star pointing model that ranged between an altitude of 30 and 88 degrees. We reset the fiducials every 10 points. The fiducial errors were: AZ ALT ROT -- --- --- 1.6" 4.6" 0" At point 9 of the model 0.8" 2.5" 0.6" At point 18 of the model 0 7.7* 0.1 At point 27 of the model * This is the combination of a +74.9" error on the first try and -67.2" on the second. I suspect there must have been some miscommunication between mcp and mei for an error this large to show up ( yes the axis was in hold when the fiducial was set ), especially since on the second try the errors nearly canceled. Another hint is that the fiducial crossing value prior to setting the fiducial looked quite normal. PROBLEMS: ========= ENCLOSURE: When we tried to move the scope off at sunset, the enclosure refused to move after moving for about 5 ft. We had an "OH (overheat)" message. We called up French who suggested we wait for about 10,15 min and try again. We did so, but the error did not clear. French and Carlos returned to the mountain. While French and Carlos were coming out, Dan, Steph and Scot kept on trying and eventually they were able to remove the OH error. Carlos thinks there is a relay problem which cleared while Dan was pressing down the resets inside the power box. SOP-guiderMon: Dan noticed that scaleChanges done from SOP can be wrong if you have modified the scale in the TCC. Apparently SOP does not check with the TCC to see what the scale is, but relies on the value it has in memory. SOP should query the TCC and compare that scale with the last value it has in memory. A PR has been filed (SOP/1075).
