Obviously, we will need more tomorrow due to a number of rather important problems found tonight. SYNOPSIS FOR NIGHT: =================== Quelle nuit! What seemed to be working yesterday not longer worked tonight and no action was taken on bugs reported last night for tonight. TELESCOPE STATUS: ================= AZ = stow, ALT = 30deg, EC on. DIMM: ----- INTERLOCKS: =========== None bypassed SOFTWARE USED: ============== IOP/SOP: v3_15_5 Watcher: v2_8_2 MCP: v4_2_4 TPM: v1_0_8 AstroDa: 14_28 TCC: 2.2.9 WEATHER SYNOPSIS (see below for hourly data): ============================================= GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== Daystaff: Despite bug reports and log entries, no software changes were made today, so we are running the same version as last night. This means we run the same version of the software that was made after the first night of the three-night shakedown the rest of the entire run. We are discouraged by this and think we should have had some new fixes today (if possible) to problems found last night. Dan Long came in this afternoon and with Dave Woods mounted the engineering camera and everything worked fine. He left. Andy requested some dark tests to further investigate the light leak problems David reported. We loaded cart 3 plate 302 with the black cloth (plate 666) over it, put the telescope at 35deg with all dome lights out and the flashing light and stop button gloved. We started around 17:50. See the Data Acq. logs for details on frames taken. We took 3 biases, then a 900s goStare, then unplugged the sensor power cables, then took another 900s goStare then 3 more biases, plugged the sensor power cables back in and did a new 900s exposure followed by three biases. The last set was to record the effect of any ambient light level changes. The data are in /data/spectro/22May00Tests. There are no GROSS differences in the first and second goStares, but there may be more subtle ones I'm leaving to the better-equipped experts to mull over. Andy looked at the data says the plugged vs. unplugged data show no differences. endDrift of the bias drift again reported: im> endDrift Mon May 22 18:38:52 MDT 2000: stopping drift with: iccExec id1 id2 id3 id4 id5 id6 ad1 ad2 ad3 ad4 readoutEnd Mon May 22 18:39:31 MDT 2000: closed shutters Mon May 22 18:39:31 MDT 2000: endData completed Flavor of this run (science, bias, calibration, engineering, ignore, help) [bias]: Mountain estimate of the overall data quality (unknown, bad, acceptable, good) [unknown]: leap seconds = 32 filling out runlog //astrolog/51687/runlog-1496.txt for this run I cannot find all your requested files ... searching I cannot find all your requested files ... searching I cannot find all your requested files ... searching I cannot find all your requested files ... searching I cannot find all your requested files ... searching I cannot find all your requested files ... searching I cannot find all your requested files ... searching I cannot find all your requested files ... searching I cannot find all your requested files ... searching I cannot find all your requested files ... searching im> The Night: ---------- We had a number of problems with "goSpecFocus", and PRs have been filed. We have extracted the verbatim log of the session and appended it to this log for debugging purposes. In addition, "goSpecFocus" appears to go into an infinite loop of arcs and flats. The upshot is we have likely chnaged the focus on the red side (by an unknown amount due to code problems and the infinite loop), and have no idea where the blue side is in relation to the red side, other than both are now ot of focus by differing amounts. "scaleChange" did not run correctly, giving us: "what you see is what you get" A PR was filed. We then tried to go to a field in any event. "gotoField -gflat" works okay, BUT one still needs to give an explicit "axis init" either via tccPut or directly via the TCC. We had problems getting access to spectro ports, and we think that the ungraceful way of getting out of "goSpecFocus" left the ports in an odd state. We tried to kill the ports from the Xyplex, and could NOT get hold of the ports, but a "grabInst -drop", followed by a "grabInst -handlers 80" worked okay. At this point, we managed to to a successful "goStare" to get flats from BOTH spectros. We then tried a "preCalib 1 2" and were finally successful. We did a series science integrations to see if multiple goStares would work. We did get data from both spectros. We tested PRs 781, 782, 783. For 781, and 783, the problems have NOT been fixed. For 782 we could reproduce the experiment. In addition, we still were getting "aborted exposures" SP1, so rebooting the mechanicals is not the solution. We then tested "diamondPoint2" and it worked! We note that on the watcher, the VME section was throwing errors about "wrong number of pix" again for sd1. At 02:30 we put the engineering camera on as Connie was obtaining biases from the imager and it we thought it wise to let her continue in her work. We set the focus by hand to -3500 for the EC and let the model go. We used a 48 point model of which 47 points were found. The results are quite disappointing: Fitting the parameters IE, IA, CA, PZZ1, AN, AW, HWCA2, and ACEC, we obtained a sky RMS = 5.73 and a Pop SD = 6.29. There were 6 rather hideous outlayers, and when they were removed from the modeling the fit was better but still disappointing: RMS = 4.53, Pop SD = 5.05. Obvioously we left the current pointing model loaded. We tried to run "endNight $mjd" and got the same error from last night "chmod() failed on /tmp/rundirs operation not permitted" We checked the perms on this file, but did not see anything wrong with it.
