SYNOPSIS: ========= We will observe with cart 8/plate 300 and cart 3/plate 311 tonight, if the clouds allow. The spectrographs talked okay, so we were off by 23:45. By midnight the clouds came in and prevented us from aquiring stars. Fast moving hight variable clouds in the southwest kept us from being able to setup the guideing. We left cart 8/plate 300 on the telescope. GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== Cart 8, fibers 10 and 4 are grotty and should be cleaned. We tried to get stars down the fibers and found nothing due to clouds (this was at 00:20). We tried an "fk5InFiber" for 20s and still no luck. As we had an hour before this plate was optimal, we waited. We closed up at 01:00 due to heavy clouds. At 03:20, the skies started to clear out, but the cover became very variable and moved very quickly so that when we tried to do anything, we had clouds in the general direction of where the plates were. We had alternating half-hours of semi-clear skies to really cloudy weather. When DIMM could see stars, it recorded reasonable seeing (better than 1.5''). We closed up for good at 05:20. endNight 51643 -doSpectro ran without problems. The tapes were put in the recycle bin. Saftey Note ----------- When the telescope is at 6 degrees to be closed, the SP2 dewar can (and did tonight) spit liquid LN2 out the vent. This hits the laptop and the person running it. This has to be fixed, as not unnaturally enough, LN2 burns when it hits exposed skin.
