SYNOPSIS: ========= First half cloudy till 20:00, then waited for the rain/lightning to move further away. At 20:50 the humidity shot up and we could smell it in the air. We opened around 23:00. We declared two plates done. GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== Telescope was fiducialized and ready to go by twilight. Cartridge 7/plate 285 was loaded on the telescope at sundown. Clouds kept us from doing much initially, along with the possibility of rain and lightening out at Ruidoso. At 20:50 the humidity shot up to 70% and could be smelled in the air. Seeing via DIMM was 4-5''; and certainly worse than 3''. At 21:40 the humidity was 81% and rising with seeing of 2.5 - 3'' via DIMM. Started off with cart 5 plate 296 and got 4 exposures. We then attacked cart 3 plate 311, but had troubles finding the guide stars even after an fk5InFiber. We think the calib offsets were bad (even after a stickyOffsets command) as they were about 1/2 what they were before on our second attempt. (IE. gotoField - no stars - fk5InFiber - offset - stickyOffsets - gotoField - no stars - offset calibs =x - offset calib /pabs - fk5InFiber - offset - stickyOffsets - gotoField - find stars - offset calibs~x/2.) We eventually took 4 good exposures. We finished plate 311 around 4:20 and since twilight was only 30 minutes away, we took advantage of the lull with SOP developers present to do some engineering. We debugged new versions of the guider display (without the -simple) and Scott's new efficiency meter. endNight -doSpectro completed successfully.
