We will try to run imager biases in the enclosure with lights on and lights off (when the camera has cooled). If the weather permits us to open, we will install cartridge 6, plate 322 and test the latest SOP version and check the fiber angles. SYNOPSIS: ========= Wind and dust kept us closed until 21:00. Then clouds formed over the mountains. At 23:00, the clouds began to come and go, but dust counts stayed high enough to worry us until after midnight. We ran bias drifts while the camera was warm, but that was about all we were able to accomplish. The camera had not cooled to nominal temperatures by 01:00. We ran a few tests relating to outstanding PR's. GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== Norm plugged plate 322 on cartridge 6 for us, so we could run spectro/SOP tests tonight. This is a "Schlegel plate" with bright objects. Exposures should be 3X300 sec. IOP/SOP v3_13_2 was cut last night, and needs to be tested. We started the evening with a warm camera mounted on the telescope. Connie started cooling the camera at about 18:00 and we ran some bias scans while it was cooling. During this time we encountered a few archiver problems (see the problems section). Most notably, we lost id3-1, however the autorecovery worked just as it should. While waiting for the weather to improve, we ran a few tests relating to some open bug reports: Watcher PR 966 : The watcher does not automatically update the scan number. A reset of the watcher will update the run, but it should be automatic. Robert wanted us to see if resetting the one watcher updates ALL watchers. It does not. When resetting, we noticed that watcher was still displaying old errors (PR 967). SOP PR 829 : Quitting an saoDisplay, then doing a startMon -simple does not bring up a new saoDisplay. Scott B.'s workaround is to issue a showGuiderFrame to bring up the display. We tested this and it works. We also tested it for the case where one forgets to issue a startMon, but then does a guider exposure. ShowGuiderFrame brought up the display with the correct frame number. We noticed the regulator to the N2 that pressurizes the imager 180-l dewar had been shut off. We went ahead and closed the 180-l dewar vent valve. So, Connie, if you turn the regulator back up tomorrow, remember that the vent valve also needs to be opened. Norm filled the spectrograph dewars in the afternoon. Sp2 started complaining at about midnight. When we filled the spectrographs, Sp2 took a long time to fill. This is a heads up to watch Sp2's hold time...Also, could everyone make an effort to note on the whiteboard when you fill dewars? We noticed that no entries had been made for a couple of days, so it is hard to draw conclusions about the dewar's hold time. We noticed that IOP was giving us the "Error: can't read "scanType": no such variable" message at the end of each bias. This bug was fixed in v3_13_1, but is back in the version we ran tonight. Did we do something wrong while tagging the latest version or...? Scot sent an email about this to Jim and Chris. Everything appeared okay until we started an imager bias drift. The archiver was in a paused state and did not start archiving until an archResume was issued. At this point we got the following error for all nodes: Apr 22 18:48:18 sdssid1 dArch dsc_E_ivFrameCtx Invalid Frame context After the pool cleared out (after the archResume) and a new bias was started, archiving progressed normally. We are a little confused by this as the pool appeared to have old data in it, and a poolInit was done as part of the checkout. id3 Rimfire Failure: -------------------- While bias drift 1397 was in progress, id3-1 complained with: Apr 22 19:51:26 sdssid3 dArch dsc_I_archFailMsg Rimfire failure ID = 1 Status = 0xf1150401 0x1194080 Apr 22 19:51:26 sdssid3 dArch dsc_E_trcErr dscArch_CheckPrevOp: rstatus = 0x80014104, drive 1 Apr 22 19:51:26 sdssid3 dArch dsc_E_archShutDown1 Archiver shutting down first drive Apr 22 19:51:26 sdssid3 dArch dsc_E_archWrFail Tape write error while ar chiving frame 1397 22.43 . . .
