SYNOPSIS FOR NIGHT: =================== The first half of the night was spent waiting to take spectroscopic data. Finally it cleared and we finished plate 305. That's it. (Chip 33 looked OK in the day's biases.) TELESCOPE STATUS: ================= Cartridge 1 and the corrector are left mounted on the telescope. DIMM: ----- ~ 1 arc-second fwhm, once it cleared. INTERLOCKS: ----------- None bypassed. SOFTWARE USED: -------------- IOP/SOP: v3_10_2 Watcher: v2_6_1 MCP: v4_0_2 WEATHER SYNOPSIS (see below for hourly data): ============================================= Thick high cloud until a little after 2:00am. Clear after that. GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== There was a small glitch in mounting the corrector this afternoon(PR 893). The first time we tried to put it on the telescope it was stopped about a third of an inch short. We found the alignment pin for the corrector was far enough off that it was not engaging the rotator. The corrector was on cartridge 3 at the time. Apparently there is enough motion possible between the cartridge kinematics and the guides on the corrector, that the pin can be too far off to line up when mounting. We need to watch out for this when putting the corrector on. If the weight starts rising rapidly at something like 22.4" instead of ~22.8" on the lift pendant, check the alignment pins on the corrector. It was cloudy at the start of the night. Cartridge 3, plate 260 was mounted shortly before sunset. It was swapped for cartridge 2, plate 318 at about 20:40. No data were taken on either cartridge due to clouds. The enclosure remained closed until about 2:15, when we installed cartridge 1, plate 305 and opened up. Both the sensor cables on the spectrographs were unplugged. Focus started at 1500. The DIMM was reporting about 1" seeing; we were seeing about 2" in our guider images, getting as good as ~1.5" at times. Attempts to tweak the focus during the exposures didn't result in any better guider images. We ran endNight -doSpectro within sop, and it started archiving imager frames, but ran successfully. We did an iccExec [photoList] archPause from iop to keep the frames for the daytime archiving. (Unless it was the daytime archiver who started them archiving?) DATA ACQUISITION (see IOP/SOP output below): =========================================== IMAGING: -------- 1254: 18:45 - 04:14 Long bias run to provide frames - ( ignore ) for archiver testing. The archiver was paused during this. Chip 33 looked OK tonight!
