Proceed to spectroscopy if stars come out. SYNOPSIS FOR NIGHT: =================== Clouds kept us closed for the duration of the night. The light leak problem seen last night appears to have been fixed. id3's VCI card was replaced to see if this takes care of the "wrong num of pix" problem. TELESCOPE STATUS: ================= Stowed at 35 deg altitude with the imager installed. Counterweights at 720. DIMM: ----- INTERLOCKS: =========== SOFTWARE USED: ============== IOP/SOP: v3_12_2 Watcher: v2_8_2 MCP: v4_2_1 TPM: v1_0_5 AstroDA: v14_20 TCC: 2.2.5 WEATHER SYNOPSIS (see below for hourly data): ============================================= Mostly cloudy in the late afternoon with more clouds coming from the West and North. Clouds persisted all night. GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== We mounted the imager before twilight and awaited the weather. Ron R. contacted Jon B. about the "wrong # of pixel" errors and suggested labeling id3's VCI card as "suspect" and then swapping it with that of id2. He did this and noticed the jumper configuration on each card looked different, but since Ron told him they are identical, he figured maybe there are different card configurations that, but the end-result is the same. After the swap, he rebooted the crates (ids 1-3) and we noticed the servers crashed. We restarted them. We also had to restart the ptvme link with an iop ptvmeReset command. We ended up doing a full new initNight -poolInit -tapeLoad sequence (yes, there may have been a more graceful way, but this worked) and got a new bias going to exercise the system. Also, during this time, Steve K. made my own (Scot's) personal version of his tccMonitor program which we can now run by typing scot after getting the normal version going. The command tccRevert goes back to the original version. Since I prefer color instead of bold face for his field headings, I wrote a short, but contorted script to ssh to my linux box and open a color xterm there (I couldn't find a good one on 'commish) to ssh to sdsshost and run tccmon. The only reason I put this here in the log is in case other observers want to do the same, I can show them what I did. Run 1306 is a "bias" run with the shutters open, but initiated by a simple goDrift and not a goDrift -bias. The telescope was in the enclosure and the known light sources were covered up. We did this to test the fixes Jim made today of the light leak found last night. It looks like the fixes worked as we could see no signs of the light leak on chips 23 and 24 as we did last night. :> During run 1306, Jim wanted a set of frames pulled over, so I used the getAllFrames command. At some point, I don't know if it was before or after I tried to do an endDrift while it was pulling over frames, it seemed to get stuck in a loop and continuously pull over the same frames - over and over again. I know I hit return a few times, trying to get a prompt to endDrift, but this shouldn't have re-issued the command. I also tried ctrl-C but this never did anything. Along the way, some weird error message appeared, but it kept on pulling over frames. (A sample error: Error: invalid command name "ic"). These frames are in /data/photo/optics/driftbias. The previous real bias drift (1305) is in /data/photo/optics/bias. During the second shift we continued to run bias drifts to check the archiver and see if we got more "wrong num of pix" problems. We did not. However, from 23:54-23:58 the Watcher diplayed errors for all six id nodes. The error was that no gangs were transferrred. There were no equivalent errors in the murmur log. The errors came spaced about 1.5 minutes apart and appeared sequentially from id1 to id6. All ad nodes then displayed the same error after the id nodes. After a new bias drift was started, we did not see these errors again. EndNight 51634 was run on the bias data. No mail should have been sent to shiptapes@apo.nmsu.edu. The gangs tapes were removed from the drives for recycling.
