If the weather clears enough for an imager focus sweep, we will do that. SYNOPSIS FOR NIGHT: =================== Skies were cloudy to mostly cloudy, preventing us from opening at all. The clouds finally dissipated at morning twilight... We exercised the spectrographs inside the enclosure by taking many biases, flats and arcs while waiting in vain for the weather to clear. We had no problems with the spectrographs or the spectro crate. TELESCOPE STATUS: ================= The telescope was left parked at 30 deg. altitude with corrector and cartridge 4 on. Counterweights are at 300. DIMM: ----- DIMM seeing not available -- clouds. INTERLOCKS: ----------- None bypassed. SOFTWARE USED: -------------- IOP/SOP: v3_10_3, v3_8_8 for endNight Watcher: v2_7_0 MCP: v4_0_2 WEATHER SYNOPSIS (see below for hourly data): ============================================= At 00:00 -- Mostly cloudy. Cirrus, with heavier cloud coming on from the SW. At 01:30 -- Mostly cloudy At 03:30 -- mostly cloudy At 05:00 -- partly cloudy GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== We finished off the pre-flight check list and set up SOP by 23:45. We mounted cartridge 4, plate 324 in a fit of optimism. While waiting for the weather to clear, we exercised the spectrographs (and the spectro crate) by taking many biases, flats, and arcs. There were no problems. The frame numbers are listed below in the spectroscopy section. These tests were done inside the enclosure. The connector on sp2 that supplies power to the "light-leak LED" was connected during these tests. The flashing amber enclosure door light and azimuth stow lights were also on. We then covered the light sources from the enclosure, but left the taped over LED inside sp2 on. A series of darks and exposures with shutters open at two different exposure times were then taken...see the details in the spectroscopy section. At the end of the night, we ran endNight -doSpectro -doTpm and had some problems. See the trouble log below. A note to the day staff: The grade 2 N2 bottle that pressurizes the imager 180-l dewar is down to 300 psi, and will need to be replaced. At first, endNight would bomb immediately with this message: sp1> endNight 51617 -doSpectro -doTpm endNight checking archiving status: Error: couldn't open "/astrolog/51617/idReport-51617.par": No such file or directory It appears it was looking for the imager run information, although it should have skipped over that part. A PR was filed (iop/899). This problem was circumvented by running v3_8_8 of iop. Next, iop complained that it couldn't read the volume 1 tape label. We wanted to replace that tape, but found that we had no more DLT IV's labelled and ready. Instead, we just swapped the DLT's...putting the one that was in drive 1 into drive 2 and vice-versa. This time, when we ran endNight, it completed succesfully, and data was archived to both tapes. DATA LOGS FROM IOP/SOP: ======================= n/a yet
