Imaging if conditions permit, although we will start with spectroscopy during moony conditions. SYNOPSIS FOR NIGHT: =================== Clear & cold with strong N winds early and generally poor seeing. Spectroscopy of plates 418, 426, 435, 442, and some training done. TELESCOPE STATUS: ================= Stowed at 30 deg alt with cartridge 2 mounted. Counterweights at 280. Spectro autofill connected in auto mode. INTERLOCKS: =========== None bypassed SOFTWARE USED: ============== IOP/SOP: v3_19_1 Watcher: v2_8_6 MCP: v4_3_9 TPM: v2_1_3 AstroDa: 14_34 TCC: 2.4.1 WEATHER SYNOPSIS (see below for hourly data): ============================================= Clear, cold and windy (out of the NNE) with seeing generally over 2 arcsec until 04:00. GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== We finished the afternoon checkout and opened at sunset. Our earliest cartridge was mounted and two exposures were taken, but we did not declare it done because of a teamster problem (see problems section) that delayed us a few minutes, followed by high winds. We closed because of winds at about 20:00. We reopened at about 22:00. Spectroscopy: Cartridge 4, plate 418: Offsets: 0.000022, 0.001795, -0.007000 Scale: 0.999740 Two 15-minute exposures completed, then winds forced closure. This plate was not declared done. Because we had to run and close, we did not get any postCalibs or smear for this plate. Cartridge 5, plate 426: Offsets: -0.000424, -0.001821, -0.007000 Scale: 0.999740 Seeing is not great...2.5-2.8 arcsec. It looks like we will stick with spectroscopy for a while. This plate was declared done with 4800sec total exposure. Cartridge 6, plate 435: Offsets: 0.004450, 0.000183, -0.007000 Scale: 0.999990 Seeing is a little better, but not much...around 2.5 arcsec. This plate was declared done. cartridge 8, plate 442: This plate required a large rotator offset around fiber 11 to find all the guide stars. Offsets: 0.005474, -0.000888, objInstAng=-0.0688 Scale: 0.999990 Seeing improved at about 04:00 to imaging quality, but it was too late to switch to imaging at this point. This plate was declared done. When Snedden closed all *OP sessions, and Neilsen started a new SOP session, and a new teamster started, the images in the pool transferred. There were no warnings of this from the Watcher...the only clues were in the Murmur log. TCC: ---- Eric kept getting 'mailbox full' errors that appeared in his TCC & IOP windows. After a while, they stopped. Some IOP sessions and associated TCC connections were stopped in the meantime. Could these be connected? Here is a transcript: im> UserNum=10; MsgsLost=1; Text="user mailbox full; no more errors reported for this user until output resumes" UserNum=10; MsgsLost=3; Text="output resumes" UserNum=10; MsgsLost=1; Text="user mailbox full; no more errors reported for this user until output resumes" UserNum=10; MsgsLost=3490; Text="output resumes" A PR was filed. SOP/Spectrographs: ------------------ Just before a spectro readout began we got the following message. There were no obvious problems associated with this message...everything appeared to be working okay. A PR was filed. Mon Dec 04 01:29:17 MST 2000: Spectro sp1 mechanicals parse error: n =====endStare: beginning read out ============================= Spectrograph 1: --------------- On exposure 7376, we got what looked like a very long bias for both the blue and red cameras of spectrograph 1, and a S/N of 0.0. Is the common shutter or Hartmann mask stuck closed? On the next exposure, all was normal again. This should be looked into. A PR was filed.
