GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== The afternoon was spent installing the lastest versions of software. We are now running v3_23_0 of iop/sop, and the tpm is at v2_1_5. The new version of the tpm has a wonderful graphic display of mirror temperature. It seemed to show a large temperature variation on the secondary. Probably too large to be real. The list should be checked to be sure that the proper sensors are being displayed for those locations. If that checks out, maybe the calibration coefficients for the individual sensors on the secondary are not being properly applied? A small quibble about the new tpm display. The temperature scale should change with the change in increment, rather than having a multiplier at the top and leaving the numbers the same. v1_4 of tccmon now sends set commands to the TCC via tccSet. Fiducial data were collected and maps were made. See http://www.apo.nmsu.edu/site/directory/dlong/Images/im_index.html for plots of the data. We started out by taking data at low and high velocities, but only sweeping a few fiducials, and making several repeat sweeps. Once we were convinced that the higher speeds were not an issue, we went ahead and took data over the full range for each axis at roughly two thirds of the nominal slew rate. This corresponded to 300000 counts/sec in azimuth, and 200000 counts/sec in altitude and rotator. Three full sweeps were made for each axis. Rotator: Fiducial 46 always missing. 1500 tick sinusoidal variation in non-reset data No significant drift, no obvious scale error 20 tick variation in reset data Could not calculate new scale Altitude: Missed 89 degree fiducial once coming down About 200 tick scale error in 90 degrees About -100 tick encoder drift in round trip full sweep. 200 tick variation in reset data Could not calculate new scale Azimuth: Missed 33 ( the canonical fiducial ) once. Fiducials 14, 16, 18, 42, 39 were found in these sweeps and had no prior value in the table. 2600 tick scale error in 540 degrees 300 tick encoder drift in round trip full sweep. 400 tick variation in reset data Old scale .0140167104063 ticks/arcsec New scale .0140167852820 ticks/arcsec The tables were generated, but not implemented. It was not clear where this data needs to go to become part of the mcp. In addition it was a little troublesome that no scale value could be calculated for altitude or rotator. The tables are included at the end of this log for those who care to read the gory details. Mamoru continued his imager calibration measurements tonight. We did not try anything with the imager or its DA tonight, so Mamoru could finish up his tests. We could not set up for the spectro monthly checkout due to snow. We could have put a cartridge on early in the evening, but were doing fiducial sweeps. It started snowing before we finished the sweeps. Ron had us take several spectro exposures to test the new video cards, also having us reboot the crate and see that it always came up correctly. He also found a bug that prevents putting a banner on any image which has overscan. This is why no spectro exposures have banners ( staring frames on the imager too ). It seems to come in between the slats in the roll up doors. Some also may be coming in over the top of the roll up doors. The largest amount though seems to get in under the building in the SW corner, between the edge of the roll up door and the south wall. There is a drift a couple inches deep there. The strong west winds were shoving the snow through the west door, and sending it pretty far into the building. It is possible some was even making it to the optics.
