Complete what items can be done inside the enclosure. SYNOPSIS FOR NIGHT: =================== A little more snow and blowing snow early, then high humidity prevented us from opening. We looked at some SOP changes that were submitted for shakeup. We had a warm-up of photo dewar 6 that we think was caused by a failed valve. TELESCOPE STATUS: ================= Stowed at 35 deg alt with the imager mounted. Counterweights at 720. INTERLOCKS: =========== None bypassed SOFTWARE USED: ============== IOP/SOP: v3_20_1 Watcher: v2_8_6 MCP: v4_3_9 TPM: v2_1_2 AstroDa: 14_34 TCC: 2.4.0b2 WEATHER SYNOPSIS (see below for hourly data): ============================================= Light snow and clouds to start. Some blowing snow as well. High humidity all night. Steep temperature drop at about 03:00. GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== We looked at the following PR's that had been worked on for shakeup: SOP/1224: --------- Per the instructions we tried rebooting the spectro crates and running goStare without a -init to see what SOP would do. The transcript is pasted here: sp1> goStare 0 -bias PlateId [-9999]: !!!goStare is not initialized for SOP!!! Enter y to force goStare to continue: y Proceeding with goStare with no initialization Flushing charge for 15 sec appending BEGIN appending END 973648270 973648271 Seq 6991 Exp 6991 Frame 1 Do not schedule startFlushCharge sp1 200 Do not schedule startFlushCharge sp2 200 sp1> Watcher showed "Server is not responding" for both sp1 and sp2 at this point. Answering "y" is not a good idea. No frames were saved to data/spectro/MJD. This has the very bad effect of getting the frame numbers out of sync. Look at the results from following biases for both cameras. Note sp1 has different numbers than sp2! Note the time stamps as well. -rwxrwxr-x 1 ank dss 8815680 Nov 7 18:37 sdR-b1-00006990.fit -rwxrwxr-x 1 ank dss 8815680 Nov 7 19:04 sdR-b1-00006992.fit -rwxrwxr-x 1 ank dss 8815680 Nov 7 19:15 sdR-b1-00006993.fit -rwxrwxr-x 1 ank dss 8815680 Nov 7 19:35 sdR-b1-00006995.fit -rwxrwxr-x 1 ank dss 8815680 Nov 7 19:39 sdR-b1-00006996.fit -rwxrwxr-x 1 ank dss 8815680 Nov 7 18:37 sdR-b2-00006990.fit -rwxrwxr-x 1 ank dss 8815680 Nov 7 19:04 sdR-b2-00006993.fit -rwxrwxr-x 1 ank dss 8815680 Nov 7 19:15 sdR-b2-00006994.fit -rwxrwxr-x 1 ank dss 8815680 Nov 7 19:35 sdR-b2-00006995.fit -rwxrwxr-x 1 ank dss 8815680 Nov 7 19:39 sdR-b2-00006996.fit -rwxrwxr-x 1 ank dss 8815680 Nov 7 18:37 sdR-r1-00006990.fit -rwxrwxr-x 1 ank dss 8815680 Nov 7 19:04 sdR-r1-00006992.fit -rwxrwxr-x 1 ank dss 8815680 Nov 7 19:15 sdR-r1-00006993.fit -rwxrwxr-x 1 ank dss 8815680 Nov 7 19:35 sdR-r1-00006995.fit -rwxrwxr-x 1 ank dss 8815680 Nov 7 19:39 sdR-r1-00006996.fit -rwxrwxr-x 1 ank dss 8815680 Nov 7 18:37 sdR-r2-00006990.fit -rwxrwxr-x 1 ank dss 8815680 Nov 7 19:04 sdR-r2-00006993.fit -rwxrwxr-x 1 ank dss 8815680 Nov 7 19:15 sdR-r2-00006994.fit -rwxrwxr-x 1 ank dss 8815680 Nov 7 19:36 sdR-r2-00006995.fit -rwxrwxr-x 1 ank dss 8815680 Nov 7 19:39 sdR-r2-00006996.fit We rebooted the spectro crates, then did goStare 0 -bias, answered 'n' this time and it worked fine. Here is the transcript: sp1> goStare 0 -bias PlateId [-9999]: !!!goStare is not initialized for SOP!!! Enter y to force goStare to continue: n Please reissue goStare with -init flag sp1> Next we rebooted and did goStare again with no -init, followed the instructions to use -init and got the following: sp1> goStare 0 -bias PlateId [-9999]: !!!goStare is not initialized for SOP!!! This is another bug. We also tried rebooting the spectro cameras because this PR was a little vague. We then ran another goStare. Here is the transcript: sp1> goStare 0 -bias PlateId [-9999]: !!!!! You need to do an IACK !!!!!!!! !!!!! You need to do an IACK !!!!!!!! We iacked, and ran another set of biases that were normal. Because of the bugs we noted, we reopened this PR. SOP/1489: --------- We also checked to see if when a goStare is issued, a camstat for each spectrograph shows up in the murmur log. It does. The bias also completes normally. This PR was closed. SOP/1376: --------- We checked the documentation that Schlegel wrote on the Son-of-Spectro. We tried stopping then restarting the cron job and had no problems. The next step was to take some flats or arcs, stop the cron job , restart it, take some more arcs/flats and look at the web page to make sure the info was indeed copied over. This is exactly what happened. The written procedure is easy to follow and works as advertised. We closed the PR. ---------- We discovered one more peculiar feature about power cycling the camera. About 36hrs or so after you do a power cycle, you get a critical error telling you that the camera was rebooted. You will then have to do another, im>cc setvddnom im>iack to get the voltages happy again. Connie is aware of this feature and will get rid of it in the near future. This was added to folklore. ------------ We had a serious problem with photo dewar 6 warming on the imager. See the problems section. Jon B. was called to come in ASAP to check/swap out a valve that may have failed. We tried a stopFillseq and startFillseq, but the temperature kept rising. Connie was called. We brought the camera out of the doghouse and watched and listened to see if the photo 6 valve was working. It did not seem to be, although you can't really tell by listening. But dewar 6's valve did not have as much frost on it as the others. We then switched the leads between the leading astrometric dewar valve and photo 6's valve and did another fill to see if it just wasn't getting power to open the valve. This was not the case, apparently, since photo 6 kept warming. We think the problem may be in the valve itself. We shut down the ion pump since it was pegged, and turned off the photo 6 power supply. We then mounted the imager to the telescope so it could be worked on and called Jon B.
