Training for MH and PRN. Steve Kent asked that we observe stripe/strip 11/N for as long as possible. Connie asked for biases from the imager. SYNOPSIS: ========= Collimated with eng cam. New 36-star pointing model with 2.37arcsec RMS. Closed at 23:30 when incoming precipitation seen on radar. Snow falling by 00:55. Focus not optimum as seeing degraded and variable. GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== Mounted engineering camera and adjusted top-bottom balance. Set collimation with the new piston and transverse MIGs (note the new MIG readings are in millimetres, the old lateral MIGs read in inches). Opened about 17:30. Minor problem with getting control of mirrors - learned that 'proc disable collimate' does not stop all mirror sessions, but telstop does. Guider Mac had to be rebooted to get control of the camera. Followed (and improved) the standard eng cam collimation procedures (although initial collimation once again very closed to perfect - thanks, French and crew). We ran the GRID_6_6_25_88_T_90 pointing model program and completed just before the 23:30 close, by which time the seeing had deteriorated to >3 arcsec. dopterr failed to find 1 of 36 stars and we removed 1 outlier (at low altitude in the SW) from the data to get the following results from tpoint: coeff change value sigma 1 IE -0.462 -188.27 1.709 2 IA +2.299 -215.63 2.035 3 AN +0.364 -3.26 0.642 4 AW -0.355 -62.68 0.640 5 HWCA2 -0.333 +0.01 0.864 6 HWSA2 +0.686 -0.79 0.883 7 HNCA1 -0.334 -2.63 0.948 8 HNSA1 -0.739 -0.51 0.962 9 CA -0.913 +7.77 1.574 10 PZZ1 -1.027 -128.09 4.703 11 ACEC +0.670 +3.63 1.095 12 ACES -0.990 +0.88 1.145 13 TX -0.138 -7.88 2.026 Sky RMS = 2.37 Popn SD = 3.02 which was adopted. The fit is weakest in the west. Closed at 23:30 due to precipitation seen heading our way on the radar and heavy cloud coming in from SW. Cloud camera hang reset about 00:45. Precipitation alarm sounded at 00:55 with snow falling, so cloud camera closed. Intermittent snow continued thru 04:00. . Closed PR 1138 (check server restart daemon works). 03:00-04:00. Obtained 5 frames of biases for Connie from both photometric and astrometric chips with the imager in the dog house. Run 1831. Data saved on disk (only) in sdss-commish:/data/photo/connie/ directory. Backplane comms was down at the start, so crates were rebooted. endnight not run. Camera CCD temperatures were all in spec.
