Subject: 2.5m obslog 990727 (MJD 51389) Date: Tue, 27 Jul 1999 23:44:21 -0600 (MDT) From: snedden@apo.nmsu.edu TUESDAY JULY 27, 1999 APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5m OBSERVING LOG Observing team: Jeff Hayes (APO) Ellyne Kinney (APO) Steph Snedden (APO) Tonight's plan called for us to continue trying to get a pointing model. Unfortunately, Charlie is still working on the MCP code, so we were unable to attempt this. We then decided to practice opening and closing procedures. We had problems resetting the amplifier in altitude, so decided not to continue until the MCP is checked out in all axes. The telescope was left in the same configuration as at the beginning of the night. The engineering camera is still on, waiting for a pointing model. The weather was partly cloudy with winds from the east at 10-15 mph, gusts to 25 mph. Relative humidity went from 60%-75% during the time we worked. Dust counts ranged from about 700-1000. We all got the chance to see the shuttle re-entry...quite a sight! Steph
