We started with the engineering camera on and used the mirror positions from last night. It appears that collimation is not perfect. We still had mirror oscillation problems, but managed to keep them under control by changing the outer loop proportional gain. At 22:00 we switched to spectroscopy, and in general, things went very smoothly. Spectra were taken for plates 187, 217 and 204. The Moon was up while plate 204 was on. We had time left over after finishing plate 204, so Scott marked and plugged reddening plate 231 on cartridge 4 and we acquired spectra for reddening studies. Data taking went very well, however we found at the end of the night that many frames were not saved. What we have are 3 science exposures for plate 187, half the frames for 204, all of 231, but none for 217. We finished at 07:00. ***** TELESCOPE WAS LEFT WITH PRIMARY AT REVERSE AXIAL LIMITS ***** Exposure times: Plate 187: 4 15 minute exposures (3 saved) Plate 217: 5 15 minute exposures (none saved) Plate 204: 6 15 minute exposures (about 3 saved) Plate 231: 2 15 minute exposures and 1 13 minute exposure in twilight Notes: 1) The following setmir values were written into default.dat: 0, -27.4, 7.8, 427, 1495. 2) The outer loop proportional gain trimpots were changed by Jim Gunn so that: A is backed out 1 full turn B is backed out 1 full turn C is backed out 3 full turns 3) Engineering camera focus: -3500 Spectro focus: 1225 4) Engineering camera counterweights: 280 Spectrograph cartridge & corrector counterweights: 315 5) DIMM seeing started at between 1.5" and 2.0". By midnight, it improved to 1.2" to 1.5". 6) Spectro dewars filled at 19:30, 07:15 ____________________________________________________ Problems: 1) We still had mirror oscillations start spontaneously two times. Backing off the proportional gain appeared to reduce the amplitude of the oscillations. Our solution for stopping the oscillations is to send the primary to the reverse axial limits, then move the mirror back out again to the nominal values. 2) At 21:30 the laptop ethernet connection came loose. We did not realize this had happened at first, and re-booted the MCP. We therefore had to reset the fiducials. We had some trouble finding azimuth fiducial 33, but did eventually succeed in setting it. 3) Cartridge 2, plate 191 still showed very bad guide fiber images. Scott figures the problem is with the cartridge. Perhaps the profile is off. 4) We need more glycol for the chillers. 5) Frames were lost (see first paragraph). _____________________________________________________ MIGS & galils: migs Time= 2115 G,tMIG,0,I] MIG Channel 1 = 1.926500 [MIG,tMIG,0,I] MIG Channel 2 = 0.560000 [MIG,tMIG,0,I] MIG Channel 3 = 0.559500 [MIG,tMIG,0,I] MIG Channel 4 = 8.193000 [MIG,tMIG,0,I] MIG Channel 5 = 1.907500 [MIG,tMIG,0,I] MIG Channel 6 = 0.407000 [MIG,tMIG,0,I] MIG Channel 7 = 8.302000 [MIG,tMIG,0,I] MIG Channel 8 = 8.441000 prim stat 0 1 I Received=" 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1 axis homed" 0 1 I Received=" 000006400, -000003350, -000000450, 000011050, 000007350, 000 007050 current position" 0 1 I Received=" 000006400, -000003350, -000000450, 000011050, 000007350, 000 007050 target position" 0 1 I Received=" 000000000, 000000000, 000000000, 000000000, 000000000, 000 000000 position error" 0 1 I Received=" 00065537, 00065537, 00065537, 00065537, 00065537, 00065537 status word" 0 1 I Received=" 1 lateral link air (0 off, 1 on)" 0 1 : cmd='prim stat' sec stat 0 1 I Received=" 1, 1, 1, 1, 1 axis homed" 0 1 I Received="-005096750, -004944150, -004699100, -000003300, -000000300 curre nt position" 0 1 I Received="-005096750, -004944150, -004699100, -000003300, -000000300 targe t position" 0 1 I Received=" 000000006, 000000000, 000000006, 000000000, 000000000 posit ion error" 0 1 I Received=" 00065537, 00065537, 00065537, 00065537, 00065537 status wor d" 0 1 : cmd='sec stat' _____________________________________ Weather: Tonight was clear, with some general haze.
