The enclosure was rolled off at 20:00. This opening procedure combined with the windscreen telescope gap being taped appears to result in better image quality sooner. The skies tonight started out partly cloudy, but improved by around astronomical twilight and were clear after about 23:00. Temperatures stayed within a couple degrees of 66 F all night. Winds were light westerly. There was a bit of trouble getting the camera going. We still started scanning on the equator 2 hours west of the meridian by astronomical twilight. After various focus tweaks and a rotator adjustment of seven arcminutes we were getting images with 1.0 to 1.2 arcseconds fwhm. A couple times seeing jumped up to over 1.6 arcseconds then settled back again over the course of 15 minutes or so. The 3.5m reported similar behavior. The connection point between the umbilical and the camera for the liquid nitrogen line was found to be leaking slightly this evening. Connie managed to retighten it with some rather unconventional tools. At about 03:00 we moved to 2 hours east to hop over the plane of the galaxy. Unfortunately the seeing was worse in this direction, going up to around 1.5 arcseconds. It was decided that covering the HST fields with that seeing wasn't going to be very useful, so we went to the meridian and did a focus sweep. We closed up for the night at 5:15. Dan
