Tonight started out fairly promising. We opened ( for the first time in a week ) at about 20:00 when the humidity had lowered enough. Skies were clear. We got parked on the equator at the meridian and started taking data. Star images were extremely distorted with two peaks about 2 arcseconds apart and a diffuse blob off to one side. We had time to go to zenith, relax the primary with several setmir downs and ups, and return to the equator. No change was seen from this. Next we tried homing the secondary and moving back. This didn't change anything either. Our next step was to home the primary. Unfortunately we didn't get to do this, as the humidity went back up, forcing us to close at about 22:15. We did not reopen. There was fog starting around midnight and lasting the rest of the night. For the record the mirror parameters during this were Primary Galil: 6350 -5800 900 -5700 45200 45200 setmir: 0 -26.3 30.7 1675 350 Secondary Galil: 1770900 1850900 2008100 -11000 -18000 setmir 1490 -217 0 0 134 Providing we can open tomorrow, we will attempt homing the primary and see if that clears up the problem. If it doesn't, there may be something wrong with the primary support system. A cursory check didn't show anything. Pressures for the system are fine as measured at the racks. Dan
